Tolstoy Farm & Experience Centre is a family run Farmstay which offers natural farming, being with indigenous cows, mango orchards, trekking to feel the mountains, village experiences and a sustainable lifestyle. Ideal for slow travellers,eco-tourists, nature lovers, work-from-farm guests and international travellers looking for authentic rural experiences.

Things to Do:

Work from the Farm: You can work from inside the Farmhouse or use the spacious balcony. We can arrange an easy chair also for you. There are sufficient electrical sockets in the rooms. If you wish to work under the canopy of big trees or near the cowshed, we can also arrange for that.

Trekking: Enjoy a morning or evening trek to the hilltop, taking in the majestic mountain views and surrounding greenery.

Nature Walks: Guided walks can be arranged upon request, subject to weather and guide availability (reasonable fees may apply).

Relaxation: Immerse yourself in nature’s grandeur, surrounded by cows and towering trees. This is the perfect setting for meditation, relaxation, reading, writing, or painting.

Photography: Capture stunning shots at the many picturesque locations around the farm. You can witness mesmerizing sight of paddy fields laced with Palmyra Trees!

Our property manager will welcome you and assist you throughout your stay.
Guests will have access to the entire first floor with a spacious balcony.

Please note that the stairs to the first floor is steep.

Ground floor is for the personal use of hosts.
SUSTAINABLE LIVING EXPERIENCE

Welcome to our eco-friendly haven, where we practice Natural Farming by raising indigenous cows. The farm stretches from the farmhouse to the base of a hill, offering direct access to trek and experience breathtaking views.

Start your day with the soothing sounds of birds and a beautiful sunrise, followed by a peaceful cup of coffee or tea amidst nature’s splendor. Wander through our mango orchard, and enjoy feeding the cows.

Accommodations:

Room 1: A versatile living/dining room that transforms into a bedroom with a queen-size bed.

Room 2: A cozy bedroom with a bed.

Both rooms come with attached bathrooms. In keeping with our commitment to sustainability, we do not provide toilet rolls and discourage their use.

Outside you will have your own patio/deck area with table and chairs for dining outside, all with beautiful views across the Farm.

For a tranquil experience, we do not offer TV.

You will get free Wi-Fi. All mobile networks have good coverage in the Farm.

Housekeeping, laundry, and linen changes can be arranged at an extra cost.

"CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS" - We expect our guests to keep the premises clean. All the cleaning materials are provided. We can arrange for a cleaning person if needed, at an additional cost.

🍽️Food

Our caretaker provides simple Kerala style food for breakfast, lunch & dinner. This will be chargeable. You need to order in advance. Please clean your own dishes.

An Electric Kettle & Coffee machine are provided so that you can make your own Tea/Coffee

Fridge and Induction cooker can be arranged for long staying guests. Please inform in advance for the same.


We encourage a zero single-use plastic policy. Guests are asked to hand over any recyclables to the farm staff at the end of their stay, with a disposal fee of Rs.100.

This is a small village and no garbage collection agency is available. Please drop the garbage segregated in the designated places within the Farm. Detailed instructions are in the rooms.

Please note that there is no power back up. Power supply is generally reliable.

Remember this is the countryside. You may find small animals and insects ,ants, bees, spiders, lizards, etc.


Guests have access to all areas of the farm. Due to the rural setting, wildlife encounters are possible, so we ask that you remain in your accommodation from 6 PM to 6 AM.


This is going to be a unique experience for you. We intend to do collective action for common good. Please be part of it.

HOUSE RULES

1. Smoking is allowed only in the designated areas.
2. Please read the listing description completely and ask your questions before booking.
3. Please maintain cleanliness and help us keep this space welcoming for everyone.
4. If there is any damage to the property, please notify us immediately.
5. No parties or events are allowed without prior approval.
6. Please be kind to our staff and Farm workers.
7. Please turn off Lights/Heater/Fan etc. when not in use.
8. Kindly do not throw plastic litter, glass bottles or any trash in the farm. We respect the soil and preserving the farm for generations to come is vital to us.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire upstairs area and 6 acres of lush farmland. The property stretches from the farmhouse to the base of a hill, with direct access for trekking. The farm is home to coconut, mango, and jackfruit trees, along with a diverse array of seasonal flora and fauna.

Please note that there will be people around to take care of the farm and cows but we will ensure that this will not affect your privacy.

You can also visit our satellite Farm nearby and enjoy the scenic beauty there.

Please wear boots always when you walk around the Farm.

*Where is Tolstoy Farm Located?

The farm is located in Palakkad Gap of Kerala. This is also near the border of Tamil Nādu, the neighboring state.

*How to reach the Farm?

The distances to major Airports, railway stations, bus stations are given. We will guide you appropriately after the booking is confirmed.

*What season is it?

Sept-Dec: Its pleasant season in Kerala ( please excuse the El-Nino effect)

*Is this Farm a good location for remote working or creative work?

-Yes. This Farm is ideal place for it.

* How long do you recommend guests stay at the Farm?

- We suggest the minimum 5 nights stay for serious work.

* Is the second room shared with others?

- No, you will have entire first floor once you book.

* Do you have any additional rooms available?

- Yes, we do have one additional room downstairs, which is normally used by our family. On occasions when a guest has an urgent need for an extra room, we may be able to make it available on a case-by-case basis, depending on the circumstances and availability.

* Is it a secluded place?
- No, there are houses near the farm.

* Do you provide Food?

- Yes we give delicious Kerala Food. Please note this will be charged.

* Is Smoking and drinking allowed?
- Please smoke in the balcony only.

- Drink responsibly and take care of yourself. Please keep the place clean.

*Do you provide pick up and drop services?

-Yes we do provide. We will provide the details during your booking.

*Is there an in-farm Trekking Trail?

Yes, that is our major attraction. You can Trek to experience majestic views of the western ghats. This is Free of cost.

*Which are the nearby Attractions you recommend?

-Drive through Paddy Fields – Wide open fields with the Western Ghats as backdrop, perfect for photography and enjoying rural life( preferably in the morning or evening--there are many view points)

-Chinganchira Prakruthi Temple (Nature Temple)

-Kudilidam (where you can experience the village setitings , best in the evenings)

*What should I always remember while in the Farm?

Do not walk around in the Farm from 6PM - 6AM
Always wear gum boots while walking in the Farm

* What all items should I bring to the Farm?

- additional pair of chappals. Ideally a shoe model with front portion covered and thick rigid soles.

* Please explain the pricing model

- Please note that the price shown is the base price. This is for single Traveler. Minimum 3 nights booking. We encourage Independent travelers who wants to enjoy the Farm surroundings and do creative work or just immerse with the surroundings.

*Who will be there at the farm during my stay?

I don’t live at the farm, but I will make a genuine effort to meet you personally during your stay.

A family member, usually my father, will always be staying in the downstairs area while guests are at the farm. Our farm manager, Mr. Manikandan, lives about 1 km away and is available to assist whenever needed.

My brother operates the farm with the support of our team. He has a deep knowledge of the flora and fauna of the surrounding area and enjoys sharing his knowledge with guests who are interested in nature and the local environment.

If you would like to explore beyond the farm, he can also take you to Nelliyampathy Hills or Parambikulam wildlife sanctuary on request, subject to availability.

So, while you will have your own privacy and space, you will always have someone nearby to assist you and make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

9. Thou shalt Tour – day trips to explore the beauty spots (Nelliyampathy/Malampuzha/Parambikulam)
10. Thou shalt prep a meal – learn to cook a local delicacy

DISCOUNTS:

We encourage long stay, weekly (5% off) or monthly (10% off) for your stay in the Farm so that you can rejuvenate your mind and body completely by engaging in Farm activities, trekking and walking.

WEATHER:

Summer (March to May):

Kollengode experiences warm summers, with daytime temperatures ranging from 30°C to 38°C (86°F to 100°F). While it can get hot, evenings are usually cooler, and the lush greenery of the region provides a refreshing environment.

Monsoon (June to September):

The monsoon season brings heavy rainfall, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 30°C (75°F to 86°F). The landscape comes alive with vibrant greenery, and the air is cool and fresh. It’s a great time to experience the beauty of Kerala’s rain-soaked countryside.

Post-Monsoon/Autumn (October to November):

This period offers pleasant weather, with temperatures between 24°C and 32°C (75°F to 90°F). The rains reduce significantly, leaving the surroundings lush and serene. It’s an ideal time for trekking and enjoying the natural beauty.

Winter (December to February):

Winters are mild and comfortable, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). The weather is perfect for outdoor activities and exploring the farm and nearby hills.

No visitors are allowed

We request our guests to be conscious of their actions, and the impact they are having on their surroundings. Be responsible!


.We are ok if you want to get your pets along as long as they do not disturb the cows and damage the property. Please take permission in advance.

.You can bring kids if you would like them to connect with nature.

.Not suitable for elderly members of the family.


. Living in nature includes witnessing the life of insects. We are always there to guide them away from you.


Around the property, you can travel with your own private vehicle. We can also arrange a cab / rikshaw for your travel needs.

The Farmhouse is a passion project that came out of the need to live and encourage sustainable living practices. We do have our practical limitations but the property will always be a work in progress towards being closer to nature.

Please do ask for any facilities, if available we shall do the best to provide, if not available we will be honest and graciously decline it.
