Villa Maragoça Retreat Douro is a beautifully restored quinta nestled in the hills of Penafiel, just 40 minutes from Porto and its international airport — and at the gateway to the legendary Douro Valley.

This is not a hotel. It's your home in Portugal.

We offer five elegant double rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning, and all the comforts you'd expect — set within a peaceful rural property with private parking, a cosy living room with fireplace, and lovely outdoor spaces.

Daily breakfast is available on request, made with local, seasonal products. We take care of everything so you can simply enjoy Portugal.

My name is João and I am the owner of Villa Maragoça Retreat.
I built this "quinta" with care and attention to detail — it was a personal project to restore a traditional Portuguese rural property and create
a place where guests can truly feel at home.
By profession, I am a university professor and consultant specialising in operations management.
This means I am organised, attentive, and genuinely committed to making your stay run smoothly from day one.

I live nearby and am always available to help — whether you need a restaurant recommendation, a lift to the airport, or simply a good conversation over a glass of Douro wine.

I speak English and Portuguese fluently, and I know this region well. I will be happy to share my favourite hidden spots, local markets, wine estates,
and walking routes with you.

Villa Maragoça is not a business to me — it is a place I am proud of, and I want every guest to leave feeling the same way about Portugal that
I do: that there is nowhere quite like it.

Once you send a booking request, the host is notified that you are interested in their listing. From that moment, they have 24 hours to approve or reject your booking.

Hosts are mainly interested in the profile of their guest. Do not forget to fill in all necessary information, add your profile picture, or even make a short video about yourself. Doing that will make you more attractive for the owner and your booking will more likely get approved.

The duration of a medium-term rent is usually 1 to 12 months. Most of the hosts offer long-term rents or rents for just a few days, therefore getting a medium-term rent without Flatio is not that easy.

You can take a look at the contract in advance and online with every listing. After you sign it, you will find it in the application My Housing.

While arranging a contract on Flatio, you do not have to worry that it could be disadvantageous for you. Our contracts are made so that we avoid all problems! All of them are the same, used by all the hosts on Flatio.

Могу ли я лично увидеть выбранное жилье до подписания договора аренды?

On Flatio, you have a variety of payment methods to choose from. You can use your card, payment gateway or bank transfer. Just pick the one which suits you the most.

How can I cancel my booking?

How you can cancel a booking varies depending on what stage the booking is in.

Is your booking request still waiting for host approval? Then you can simply cancel it directly from your My Housing web app!

However, suppose the owner has already approved your booking request, and you are no longer interested in it. In that case, you can still cancel the booking before you sign the lease agreement. Just consider that you should do this only in essential cases. Because when the host accepts your booking, the living space is stopped being advertised, and they can lose the chance to rent their property to someone else.

Do you have an approved booking and also a valid agreement? In order to cancel your booking, contact Flatio customer support well in advance of your contract beginning (the specific time and amount of refund depends on the type of cancelation policy).
